‘Using photographic material from the landscape I use ever changing digital devices as a medium to create malfunctioning imagery. Focussing on the data that makes up the fabric of the image, I aim to highlight beauty within imperfection - a process that produces the unexpected and unpredictable.’

‘My artistic process has a rather appropriate parallel to the pandemic in the sense the outcome was then, and still is, unknown. It was hard to lose everyday freedom that you’d normally take for granted and being plunged into uncertainty was tough. Adapting to a new way of living was definitely difficult however I felt some comfort in knowing I had a slither of normality left within my art practice. I’m lucky to live on the coast and have used this time to reconnect with my hometown. It’s easy to take places familiar to you for granted so it’s been nice to view it from a new perspective. The East Yorkshire coastline is full of hidden beauty and I have never appreciated it more than I did during lockdown.’

Ellen Paige Leach is a New Media artist living and working in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Ellen has a BA honours degree in Fine Art from Falmouth University and works as a full-time artist. Using digital photography to document, Ellen immerses herself in the environment focusing on shape, colour and texture. Her process involves breaking images apart until they become something new. Focussing on the data that makes up the fabric of the image, she aims to highlight beauty within imperfection - a process that produces the unexpected and unpredictable.
